Canadian artist Adriean Koleric — aka ITEM — will feature his 80s pop culture influences at his first solo show, “Herd,” at the Latitude 53 Visual Culture Space in Edmonton (April 17 to May 16). The exhibition will be made up of his take on the Star Wars Imperial AT-ATs, using various media — two examples are pictured above.

Koleric — who finds fascination in architecture and industrial design — was a presenter at PKN Edmonton Vol. 2. That city’s next edition (Vol. 4) is scheduled for June 16.

The tickets will be available at the box office (on the first floor of the Electricity Museum) from 19h30 and the price is 5€. There are no reservations, so please, show up early. The doors will open at 21h. The conferences will start around 21h30. We are waiting for you!

When I attended the opening reception for 101TOKYO, I noticed what looked like a few shelves of CDs in one corner, and was wondering why they were selling albums at the event. It’s only when I looked closer that I realized they were in fact extremely detailed — and painted — reproductions by artist Masaru Aikawa (eitoeiko). The display was even flanked by a listening booth, where you could sample voice-only lyrics-free “covers” performed by the artist himself.

For his PechaKucha Night presentation — accompanied by manager Ei Kibukawa — he not only shared works, but played some of his “covers” as well. It’s also rumored that some high-profile patrons commissioned some specific album recreations…

Dunedin hit the ground running for its first PechaKucha Night, and according to organizer Paul Smith attracted over 150 to the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. The list of 12 presenters was an eclectic one — just the way we like it — and Paul provides us with the list and few photos.
