PKN Gainesville in the News

PechaKucha Daily

The first PechaKucha Night in Gainesville may have come and gone — it was held this past Friday, on what we’re hoping was a very lucky August 13 — but we still wanted to share the great poster that was produced for the event. Nothing like a good hit of Kodak slide nostalgia. Here’s also a piece about PKN’s debut in Gainesville, from The Gainesville Sun.

Poster for PKN Warsaw Vol. 4

PechaKucha Daily

Organizers of PechaKucha Night in Warsaw have announced that the next edition (Vol. 4) is set to happen September 20, and it will take place at Klub Powiekszenie. The official event page isn’t up yet, but expect to go live soon with info on presenters (you can also subscribe to the PKN Warsaw newlsetter from the city page, to stay updated).

Catching Up with PKN Kansas City

PechaKucha Daily

Another PechaKucha Night happening tonight (August 12) is Kansas City’s Vol. 10 — it will be held at the Crosstown Station, and you can find a partial list of presenters with links on the official event page. This is also a good time to point out PKN Kansas City’s Flickr photostream, which includes photos, past event posters, and press articles — here’s a photoset for May’s Vol. 9.

PKN Lands in Salt Lake City

PechaKucha Daily

The global PechaKucha Night city count continues to rise — we’re currently at the rather lovely number of 333 (oops, it never stops, make that 335) — and the latest addition, with its first event happening tonight, is Salt Lake City. The festivities will kick off at 19:00, and it all happens at the Salt Lake Art Center.

Poster for PKN Whistler Vol. 2

PechaKucha Daily

And while we’re at it, here’s a look at the poster that was created for this week’s PechaKucha Night in Whistler vol. 2. It was held at the Hot Buns Bakery, and from what we can tell, strange magical mushrooms seem to pepper the general Whistler area.

PKN Whistler Vol. 2

PechaKucha Daily

PechaKucha Night has been truly exploding in Canada’s province of British Columbia — PKN Vancouver routinely sells out all of its events, and we’ve been getting an increasing number of requests to start PKNs in the region over the past few months. One of the most recent additions is Whistler, and here are a few photos from this week’s Vol. 2 — they’re all taken from this Flickr photoset.

Below on the right, PKN Whistler organizer Aki Kaltenbach.

PKN Funchal in the News

PechaKucha Daily

We just posted about Funchal’s upcoming outdoor PechaKucha Night Vol. 2 (including a look at the event’s poster), but here’s also a press clipping about the event, sent to us by organizer Roberto Macedo Alves. It was published last week in the Diario de Noticias.

Poster for PKN Sao Paolo Vol. 5

PechaKucha Daily

Yes, it’s a day of posters today. The beautifully illustrated example you see above is for Sao Paulo’s PechaKucha Night Vol. 5, which happens August 19 at the Senac Lapa Scipiao.

Poster for PKN Funchal Vol. 2

PechaKucha Daily

Yet another outdoor PechaKucha Night on the horizon, this time Funchal’s Vol. 2, set to happen August 20 at the open amphitheatre found in the middle of the municipal garden. The event will also be held as part of the city’s 502nd anniversary.

Poster for PKN Tampa Vol. 6

PechaKucha Daily

PechaKucha Night in Tampa Vol. 6 happens at the end of the month (August 27), at Mise en Place’s LaFayette Room. You’ll find the list of presenters and links on the official event page.

                          PechaKucha Daily

Last month’s PechaKucha Night in Jaen Vol. 3 was another outdoor event — we’re spotting a trend here — and organizer Paco Casas sends us a few photos. He also had this to say:

We had a great night, but it was very hot and sticky. Luckily we got 14 boxes x 24 bottles of beer from Cruzcampo and other drinks and food from El Corte Ingles, all for free. People came from Sevilla, Granada, and Almeria to speak in our PechaJucha Night. There was also a contest to describe PechaKucha during the break and there were 10 books to win for the best from Irreversible Editores, so there was a lot of fun and people sharing a nice evening.

                          PKN Cleveland Vol. 8

                          PechaKucha Daily

We got a peek at the recent outdoor PechaKucha Night in Cleveland Vol. 8 last week, and now here are a few more photos showing off the night that was, courtesy of organizers Mike Christoff and Raseem Parker, and Flique Creative.

                          PKN Providence in the News

                          PechaKucha Daily

Last week’s PechaKucha Night in Providence Vol. 16 gets a rather nice recap thanks to this piece from The Providence Phoenix, and you gotta love a title like this: “Human contact is at the heart of PechaKucha.” And how’s this for a venue:

The setting was perfect: outdoors at the Steel Yard, on the city’s West side, on a clear summer night, with free wine and beer, a Haven Brothers truck, and big, spectacular art all around — from a sculpture made of bicycle parts to the Flower Tower, a 10-foot pyramid of plants.

Poster for PKN Xalapa Vol. 2

                          PechaKucha Daily

Today is turning into a massive poster blowout, but here’s the last one, announcing PechaKucha Night in Xalapa Vol. 2. It all happens August 26 at La Lola, and we’ll say it right now, we do love the combo that is “cevezas y pizza,” yes we do.

                          PechaKucha Night in Ferrol

                          PechaKucha Daily

We’re not altogether sure what this image was used for — it’s not a flyer, but it was produced to accompany Ferrol’s PechaKucha Night Vol. 2, held in early July. What we really like is how the designer has found a way to write “Ferrol” using the official PechaKucha logo script, and also that the logo is positioned like it was the sign on that building. That’s the next step for us, city-based PechaKucha centers — that does have a nice ring to it.

                          The PechaKucha Warrior

                          PechaKucha Daily

It appears that some cities are lucky enough to have multiple posters to choose from when it comes to publicizing their PechaKucha Nights. Such is the case for Durban, with the poster pictured above by Stephanie Mackay not making the cut. Stephanie, we like it too.
